Less than a day after we told you to prepare yourself for Royal baby fever, St James’s Palace announced that The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were expecting their first child, due in early July.
The announcement was made after Kate was admitted to King Edward VII hospital in central London with Hyperemesis Gravidarum (acute morning sickness). Although the condition can be effectively treated by supplementary hydration and nutrients, Kate is likely to be in hospital for a few days just to be on the safe side.
The sudden admission to hospital will have undoubted forced the hand of the Palace somewhat regarding the pregnancy announcement. However, I think they made the right decision as Kate’s admission to hospital would have sparked media pandemonium and intense speculation about the reasons behind her admission including concerns regarding the health of the baby.
Congratulations to the happy couple. Let’s hope Kate feels better soon and that the Press give her some recovery time and privacy over the next few days.
