Why Are Children’s Songs & Nursery Rhymes So Important?

There have been numerous studies which have demonstrated the benefits of playing nursery rhymes to children.

Over the coming few weeks I’ll be examining these studies further in order to bring you up date with the latest research.    However, in the meantime you can check out this page for more details:  http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/article/5978/Advantages_of_Nursery_Rhymes_to_Little_Children

The nursery rhymes which have the most benefit to children are the ones that have simple lyrics and simple melody lines as these songs are easy for children to learn and sing.  Nursery rhymes that lend themselves to accompanying actions are better still (such as The Wheels on the Bus) as performing basic dance routines along with the music engages the listener further and activates yet another part of the brain.

We wanted to write a children’s song that would engage as many areas of the brain as possible.  We even took it one step further and incorporated an aerobic fitness element to it.  The song is called ‘Can you Dance?’

If you want to try it out you can stream the song for free by hitting the play button below:

If you want to download the song then you’ll be pleased to know that it is available on our recently released nursery rhyme album, ‘Dance and Dream’ which is available from our lullaby music page and makes a nice gift for a special little person in your life.

Lyrics

Can you point to your toes?

Can you point to your nose?

Can you stamp your feet?

Can you clap this beat?

Can you reach to the sky?

Can you pretend to fly?

And can you dance?

Can you dance?

Can you dance?

Now freeze

Can you point to your toes?

Can you point to your nose?

Can you stamp your feet?

Can you clap this beat?

Can you reach to the sky?

Can you pretend to fly?

And can you dance?

Can you dance?

Can you dance?

Now freeze
Wave your arms in the air

Now shake your hair

Be a grizzly bear

Now freeze

Can you point to your toes?

Can you point to your nose?

Can you stamp your feet?

Can you clap this beat?

Can you reach to the sky?

Can you pretend to fly?

And can you dance?

Can you dance?

Can you dance?

Now freeze
Wave your arms in the air

Now shake your hair

Be a grizzly bear

Now freeze

Now dance and dance

Just dance

Just dance

And dance

And dance

And take a bow
